Post Superhits Nithya Menen On A Three Month Break
The actress is on a high after two back to back successes…
Mani Ratnam’s O Kadhal Kanmani and Raghava Lawrence’s Kanchana 2 have been declared hits and are still running to packed theatres. But actress Nithya Menen, who dazzled the audience with her performance in both films, is away from all the applause and celebration.
“I am on my three month break,” says Nithya. “I take a break every year. I need this time to recoup and re-energise myself. Acting does take up a lot of your energy.” She’s not one of those actors who work 365 days a year and for Nithya money is not the motivation – it is creative satisfaction. “I take up a role depending on my importance in the film and what I feel like doing at that point. I go by intuition,” explains the actor who came into films thanks to director Nandini Reddy.
Ask her what she likes to do during this yearly break and she says, “I like to be amidst nature; in peace and quiet. I enjoy reading during this time. Of course, I love to do nothing. Simply do nothing!”
So has she seen Kanchana2 or O Kadhal Kanmani with the audience? “No, I haven’t yet,” Nithya says candidly. So why doesn’t she do more Tamil films? Nithya says, “It’s not like I have consciously chosen not to do Tamil films. My first Telugu film, Ala Modalaindi (directed by Nandini Reddy) turned out to be a big hit and I got a lot of offers in Telugu after that.”
Now with OK Kanmani and Kanchana2 turning out to be blockbusters, Nithya is likely to get more Tamil film offers. But the actor is very sure of what roles she would do and what she won’t as she’s extremely secure and confident in her space in the film industry. Guess we’ll know what she signs on next once she gets back from her break!
